A campaign designed For The Culture.

The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre produces bold and relevant world-class theatre, events and cinema. They are committed to being vital to, and representative of, our local community and to being a major force in London and UK theatre.

The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre will present For the Culture: Celebrations of Blackness, its inaugural festival celebrating Black joy, talent, culture and creativity, from Friday 28th-Sunday 30th January 2022.

I was approached by the marketing team, to design and produce campaign materials for the festival.

Lyric Hammersmith

"Celebratory, challenging, joyful and bold."

The campaign needed to create broad appeal across the key demographics, and convey a “celebratory, challenging, joyful and bold experience.” Each performer in the festival represents a unique target audience for example, music, literature, performance art, visual arts, cinema, academics, arts & culture lovers and more.

I designed a campaign concept led by bold typography and mono-line illustrations. I selected the headline typeface ‘Commune’ by Velvetyne Type Foundry. Commune is a typeface inspired by 19th century posters, and the principles of the Paris Commune (1871), a revolutionary episode during which laws and decrees were put up as they were developed on the walls of Paris, ensuring daily communication to the citizens.
