Time Out Magazine London Celebrity Illustrations

A-List illustrations for a B-List feature.

For 44 years Time Out magazine has been the trusted publication that urbanites have turned to for what’s hot and what’s not, as well as entertaining features for a weekly readership of 330,000.
I was commissioned by the publication to produce a series of illustrations for a humorous feature to appear in the print and digital London editions, entitled Party With The Stars. The feature assessed the feasibility of booking a former well-known UK celebrity to attend a private function.
Objectives:

A bespoke, original illustration to accompany a Time Out feature.

Results:

The illustration was well received by client and across social media.

Sticking to the brief.

The brief was to depict the portraits in the style of Panini football stickers, hugely popular in the UK in the 80s & 90s.

Panini was founded in Modena, Northern Italy by Benito and Giuseppe Panini in 1961. In their first year of operation they sold 15 million units of stickers. They almost doubled that in 1962, selling 29 million packets.

The UK-centric celebrities featured were Andi PetersCalum BestShaun WilliamsonChesney Hawkes, John ChallisDick and DomDave Benson PhillipsPaul Merson, Pat Sharp, and children’s comedy duo The Chuckle Brothers.

Once I created the individual illustrations, they were coloured according to the colour scheme of the magazine section.
