A theatrical production for Time Out London.
Time Out is a magazine published by Time Out Digital Ltd. The publication has expanded its editorial recommendations to 107 cities worldwide, with a monthly audience of 40 million readers across platforms. The London office commissioned me to create an editorial illustration for it’s Theatre & Dance feature of Gary Barlow. A former member of UK boy-band Take That, now a television personality and theatre producer.
A bespoke, original illustration to accompany a Time Out feature.
The illustration appeared in both the print and digital editions of Time Out. Gary’s management also commissioned a specially made print of the illustration, to gift to Gary.
One monster of an idea.
The brief was a concept of Gary as a Godzilla-style character, asserting his newfound status, stomping through Theatreland (the area in London’s West End famed for it’s plethora of theatres).
I presented an initial rough sketch of the editorial illustration concept, drawn with a Wacom tablet and Photoshop, and once approved moved to line-art in Adobe Illustrator. The background was drawn based on the Lyric Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue. The illustration colours were based on the magazine section style guide.
